How Long Will I Wait?

Lively letters sit up on the shelf
Dated from years gone, collecting dust
Some writers now dead, others no longer friends
How long will I wait to read them?

Wrinkled shirts strewn across the floor
Some covered in sweat, others still clean
Piled like bodies that I once wore
How long will I wait to wash them?
How long will I wait to speak to myself?

[C]
In passing there’s awaiting
No one action to erase it
What it may be I can not say yet
I’m wrapped up in indecision

Rough sketches pressed in a notebook
Stolen ink from a felt tip pen
Traced out into twisted persons
How long will I wait to release them?
How long will I wait to greet my reflection?

[C]

Drunken steps woven on the pavement
Leaden heels tread through broken ground
Loose vision on the horizon
How long will I wait to leave this town?
How long will I wait to sit down?
How long will I wait to sing aloud?
